My Teddy's First Birthday Party! Dog Themed Party!

I've been dreaming about Teddy's 1st birthday party, oh, since probably the week he was born! Maybe even before he was born? Not in a psycho hose beast way... just in the way in which I love dreaming of ideas and parties... I remember just wondering so much who this little boy would be... while he was still a big old bump in my belly I would lie there and wonder who he was or what he might look like or what his personality would be. What would he be into by the time he was one year of age!?? That seemed soooo far away.

Once Teddy was born, and the days, weeks and months unfolded and flew by like I could never imagine time blazing by, Teddy's little personality began to emerge. Now, at almost one year of age, he's a sweet, funny, mega energetic, scrunchy-faced, curious, good natured, chatty, mischievous and adorable little half-chinese gloworm. I love him beyond anything I knew before. And he's super into DOGS.

So a dog themed party it was! It turned out super fun... and best of all, Teddy rocked his party hard, so pumped on his balloons and the new decorations around the house, drooling and laughing and scrunchy-facing and screeching and smiling his way through, delighted by his fellow miniature guests and his cousins and family, confused by all the people and the Happy Birthday singing but he took it all in stride like the social, sweet and hilarious little guy he is. The party was all I dreamed it would be, full of family, friends and love for our little Teddy!

Happy Birthday Teddy! Love you more than anything in the whole world!

Dog Cakes!

Dog cakes! So many pups to model in buttercream and so little time. If you've been following my blog for a while you might know I'm wild about make dog cakes. Something about those ridiculously cute little FACES that look so cartoonish and cute in buttercream or fondant!

Maybe I've got dogs on the brain right now because my little Teddy loves dogs! We call them "woh-woh" (which I thought was just a made-up Chinese word my parents used) but it's mea

nt to emulate "woof woof." We're even throwing Teddy a mild dog-themed 1st birthday party! So stay tuned for more doggy-ness on this here blog... !

Pink Buttercream Rosette Wedding Cake

I received a lovely email a few months ago from Sandra, a follower and fan of Coco Cake Land since she saw these moustache cupcakes ... she had recently moved to Vancouver from Portugal by way of the U.K. She wanted to know if I could make her very special wedding cake, for a "pocket sized" wedding... ! She loved this pink rosette buttercream cake and wanted some special cake toppers based on a painting a friend had made her of a mama cat, baby monkey and papa bear.

I was super jazzed on how the cake toppers turned out! It was fun sitting down to draw them and colour them in. Colouring is so satisfying and stress-reducing! I should really get some colouring books. ^__^

Thank you Sandra for the very sweet order! Very happy I was able to make a cake for you and your family.

Instacakes: Snippets of Our Summer So Far

I've had such a fun summer so far... how about you? Fun cake orders, super fun styled shoots for Poppytalk and You Are My Fave,  freelance writing about cakes for Craftsy, and swimming and enjoying the sun with my little son Teddy as much as possible! Oooh Teddy turns 1 on August 20th... I can hardly believe it... and that is also, weirdly, the same date as my very first post on this here blog!

Celebration time! I've learned and grown so much as a blogger... and I continue to enjoy connecting with you all and sharing cakes and tutorials and party fun, too.

Speaking of parties... I'm doing a dog themed 1st birthday for my pup-loving little guy... what did you do for your little one's first birthday? Leave me a link to your party photos in the comments! Would love to see!

Also, if you are also a blogger, please leave me a link to your blog in the comments. I'd love to connect.

Happy Summer,

Typography Cake Tutorial- I Love You!

Gosh, I've always loved this piping style - good old mini drop star, just filling every inch of a cake creating such a cute and vintage textured look. This cake is a real cute way to send a special message to a special someone! "Say it with cake!"

Find the whole tutorial over at my pal Melanie's blog You Are My Fave!

Happy cakeing!
