Lavendar Colored Vanilla Raspberry Cake

"Go long and lovely... you want to make the longest brushstrokes in Canada!"

"You want to go gentle with the paintbrush. Pretend like you're petting a cat. You don't want to get that cat mad!!"

Above are quotes from my impossibly nutty and awesome co-worker and friend Tara Carmichael! Each week, together we hit the streets (actually, the schools) of Vancouver in a van, hauling around 50 cans of paint, paper, brushes etc, giving painting workshops to elementary school kids. Sometimes we have up to 30 kids in a workshop. It's a willlld ride.

For Tara's birthday, I made her a vanilla cake with raspberry filling, frosted with lavendar purple buttercream and topped with a single large sugar rose. To celebrate, we sang Happy Birthday in our Drawing class of 6-8 year old kids, ate Smart Food popcorn (her fave!) and enjoyed slices of cake!

Happy Birthday Tara!!!
