Plex The Robot: Yo Gabba Gabba Cake!

Plex the robot cake from Yo Gabba Gabba! This guy was dark chocolate with vanilla buttercream, covered and decorated in fondant. I really can't wait to make more of the Yo Gabba Gabba characters in cake form in the future... 'specially the super hairy green stripey guy! You really learn a lot about modern kid's television and pop culture being in the cake biz. People are always asking you for things you haven't yet heard of. Of course kids these days wouldn't know about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-man and Pound Puppies, would they!??

My fave cutie modern kids books and TV shows include all of the Meomi characters, the Oliver Jeffers books that my cute little 3 year old nephew Brody so loves, and I get a kick out of Ni Hao Kai Lan -- though her voice is slightly annoying (sorry, it's true), the characters are SO CUTE! And they would make really cute cakes!!! Do I love Ni Hao Kai Lan because I myself am Chinese?? Quite possibly... but I think it's so cute to think of a little kid living in middle America somewhere who knows how to say "How are you" in Mandarin because of this show... ^__^

Pretty Pastel Minis for One Of A Few

Adorable Michelle has one of the coolest stores in town: One of a few, a place to find very lovely clothing chosen with a modern/always fashionable eye. To celebrate the opening of the vintage clothing pop-up shop Gypsy Market, Michelle ordered 100 mini vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream in a pale, pretty palette of pale lavender, pale pink and cream.

Lovely!

Garden Cuteness Vegan Cake! Growing Carrot Garden Cake!

The cuties at Drive Organics (an organic grocery store in my neighborhood) ordered this adorable garden-themed cake for their boss Jeff, who is venturing off into opening his own organic grocery store land in North Vancouver! The cake was a vegan dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and vanilla "butter"cream! This was lots of fun to make, fondant carrots popping up through "dirt" (dark chocolate cookie crumbs) and piped all over to be bright green and grassy! Plus, a little snail buddy!

Thanks Drive Organics people! And good luck Jeff in your exciting new venture! ^__^

Caine's Owl In A Tree Birthday Cake!

Sweet Tracy emailed me to request a cute little cake for Caine's 1st birthday ... owlie! I adore owlie cakes so I was excited to create this. Dark chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and covered in fondant with owlie and tree design, with matching mini cupcakes, frosted with vanilla buttercream and dotted with rainbow sprinkles! Cute!

And a sweet little coincidence... on the same weekend, Caine's little cousin Juju got a Toy Story cake from Coco Cake as well, ordered by Lauren! Cuteness x 2.

Coco Cake Recent Round-up: Birthday Orders For Young And Old(er!)

Recent birthday cakes flowing out of Coco Cake's river of cake dreams! Race car cake for Jayden's birthday, the tiger dude from Ni Hao Kai Lan (I always want to say Gai lan which is Chinese broccoli) for Mayah's birthday, golf themed cupcakes for Nick's 30th birthday, Toy Story chocolate cake for JuJu's birthday, and... Animal from the Muppets for Ann's birthday! I personally think my Animal cupcake looks more like a Chinese Dragon... but still cute, right? ^__^

Artful Cakeful 3

Some recent Coco Cake cupcakes flying out the door.

The photo with the bite taken out of it, chomped by Yours Truly? It was an Earl Grey cupcake with earl grey buttercream. The picture makes me drool immediately, like Pavlov's dog. Tea flavoured cupcakes are my super favourite right now! I love my daily morning tea, steeped dark and milky... !

Many lovely cupcakes for many lovely people, including Caroline, Kim, Colleen and Justine...

Artful Cakeful!

Coco Cake in Elle Girl Korea magazine!

I didn't believe it until I got a knock at the front door with a UPS guy holding a package for me. Confused, I thought, "man did I buy something off Ebay and I totally forgot? I have a problem." and then I looked down and saw it was from KOREA! Cool!

So Elle Girl Korea indeed asked me to make a cake for them, and they put a nice little article in their magazine about me and Coco Cake! Shocking!! I was sure it was a prank of some kind, another spam/scam of someone wanting me to make them a $2000 strawberry wedding cake!

And since I have a Korean connection via my cousin from another Asian mother Christa, she had her friend translate the text for me!

"Birthday cake makes your birthday, the most special day in your life, more meaningful and memorable. It's a gift you like to make for your family, love and best friends one day. Vancouver's Boutique Custom Cake Company 'Coco Cake' sent a beautiful birthday cake for Elle Girl's 8th Birthday. Lyndsay Sung, the owner and cake designer, self taught Baking and cake decoration art after completing a degree in Media Arts and opened "Coco Cake". Talented Lyndsay is not only interested in food but also in Photography and Visual Art; between the busy days at Coco Cake, she also teaches Fine Arts to kids. You can order special cakes on special days such as Wedding, Birthday. Orders can be done online and offline so adults and kids really like it. If you are curious about pretty cakes that make your eyes and mouth happy, please check www.cococake.com"

Pretty cool!!! Thank you so much Elle Girl magazine! ^__^

Yee-haw! Ajay's Cowboy 1st Birthday

My moustachioed cowboy cutie cake!

Red bandana, cactus buddies with cactus flowers and cow print cupcakes!

Mini cowboy hat and brown chocolate buttercream hair!

Cupcakes view!

Cactus buddy! It's like he's wearing a corsage! I love him!

"Y'all come join me at the corral for a nice hamburger!" (that made no sense)

Cupcakes on display at the party!

Agghhh cuteness!! Stealing cookies!

Oh boy. This was an extremely adorable party! Cowboy themed! I love it! I had the pleasure of doing Ajay's baby shower when he was just a little baby... and now his first birthday! Natallie wanted cow and bandana themed cupcakes... and I thought cactus cupcakes would be super cute too, and a "cute cowboy faced" smush cake. Oh, so sad to think of my moustachioed buddy Cowboy Face getting all smushed up! Such is the life of a cake though!

Dreamgroup did an amazing job of setting up the event at the Vancouver Club, including giant fake cacti, bandanas, photo booth, bouncy castle, cowboy hats, and even an old timey popcorn machine! And of course the cowboy cake, and plenty of cupcakes for the party guests in both dark chocolate with chocolate buttercream and vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream flavours!

Happy 1st birthday to you Ajay, may you ride into the sunset on a beautiful miniature horse to a land full of toys and candy! And thanks Natallie for having Coco Cake be a part of the festivities!
