Maneki Neko Cake & Cupcakes!

Eeeeks! I just love it when I get a cake request for something as ridiculously cute as the Maneki Neko. Maneki Neko is the little white cat with a paw saying "hello, come in and welcome!" that greets you at many Japanese and Chinese restaurants. It's a ho-ho lucky cat that brings fortune and good times to your establishment. Hmm, maybe I should invest in a little Maneki Neko for Coco Cake!!

Fei wanted something special for her brother's 40th birthday party, which was a sushi and sake themed party... so she thought a Maneki Neko cake would be jusssst right...

I made a 7 inch dark chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and chocolate ganache filling, using an "Asian-y" cake board and matching flag, and of course red fondant to cover the cake to make it extraaaa lucky. Fei also ordered 2 dozen matching Maneki Neko cupcakes in Coco Cake Chocolate and Lemon Frill flavour! She came to pick up the cakes with her cute daughter Elsa!

Happy Birthday Brent! And thank you Fei for the delightfully enjoyable order!

So Pretty Garden Party Birthday!

The beautiful girl that is Marla ordered an assortment of lovely Coco Cake cupcake goodies for her fiancee Arch's brother and wife's 40th birthdays... I tried to make a little garden-y tea party photo set-up for the cakes... I tried each cupcake flavour of course (as I always do). Yes, it's been almost 2 years since I've been baking as Coco Cake and I still eat cupcakes!

Two dozen each of Coco Cake Chocolate (dark chocolate cupcake with chocolate buttercream), Coco Cake Matcha (vanilla cupcake with green tea matcha buttercream), and Lemon Frill (lemon cupcake with lemon creamcheese frosting --terribly addictive to munch on when time is running low and cupcake orders are piling up)... !

Thanks Marla and Arch! Hope the party was a sheer delight! xo

Totoro Anniversary Cake For Chibi!

Whee! Another cute Totoro cake by yours truly, Coco Cake sole proprietor L.K.S.

When I get asked to do work that I've done previously, I always try to make it a bit different, whether it's using different colored paper for the cake board and flags, or adding a slightly different touch... on this Totoro cake I made for William as a present for his wife Chibi on their 4th wedding anniversary, I tried a new leaf look as a cake border... I think it turned out really cute!

The cake is a dark chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and chocolate ganache filling! Totoro and his buddies have a somewhat stunned expression on their face, no? :)

Aaron & Jay's Country Fair Wedding Hoedown!

country hoedown wedding cupcake tower!

I love it when a bride and groom has such a strong, fun vision -- for instance, Aaron & Jay's country fair hoedown wedding! Picture lemonade, Pop Shoppe soda, live band with banjo and standup bass, and oodles of sweet country charm. Lotus Events helped plan this adorable shindig, held at Cambrian Hall here in Vancouver.

I made 160+ Coco Cake cupcakes, three types of cupcakes in an assortment of colored liners, including gingham and polkadot cupcake liners to match the theme of the wedding! Raspberry Rose (vanilla cupcake filled with raspberry jam, topped with light pink vanilla buttercream and fresh raspberry), Lemon Frill (brightly flavoured lemon cupcake with lemon creamcheese frosting!) and a vegan option of Coco Ganache (dark chocolate vegan cupcake with vegan chocolate ganache!).

Gorgeous photo (second from top) of Aaron & Jay by Ophelia Photography. Hooray Aaron & Jay, congrats on your wedding and all the best to you both!

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

My beloved little niece Kensie turned 1! No longer a baby!! My sis Shelley threw a fun Miga-themed party for her little cutie's birthday at Vancouver's Mount Pleasant Community Centre... and old Coco Cake sole proprietor L.K.Sung had just flown in from Germany about 12 hours before party prep began!

I was in charge of making 2 giant Migas- my sis dropped of a bag containing rolls of different colored felt, so I freestyle drew what I thought was Miga's body shape, complete with her little swirlie-do pompadour hairstyle! My other sis Leanne made a really cute Happy Birthday banner and made little lootbag tags for Kensie.

I also made raspberry jam filled vanilla buttermilk cupcakes with pink vanilla buttercream topped with rosette swirls, and mini versions for the babies! And, for my little cutie Kensie, a 7 inch cutting cake with a mini fondant Miga on top.

The party was a total blast - a frenetic and energy filled 2 hours of open-gym time complete with bouncy castle, gymnastics, basketball... then upstairs to the party room for snacks, a cute Kensie video by Cinemama, and of course cake and cupcakes by Coco Cake, also known as Auntie Lyndsay! :)

Happy Happy Birthday my cute little Kensie! Love you lots! :)
