Glorious Weddings!

Loved doing this gorgeous palette-coloured wedding for Leah and Yat. Another super cool fact: Leah loved my wooden cake stands and I suggested that perhaps Yat could put his skills to the test and make some! And he did, with flying colours!

Brown Velour cupcakes in silver liners, white cupcake liners for vanilla cupcakes in three frosting styles: pale sage rosette, pale peach rosette (so cute!) and white roses with green leaves... loved the combination of these four...

So pretty, so simple. Vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream rosette.

Yat! You are a superstar! Look at those awesome cedar cake stands!
I loved how woodsy rustic and romantic their wedding colours and design was.

Cupcakes and flowers... pretty good combo!

Cupcake flag!

The day's program, and some excellent wood shaved pencils!

Lush, romantic but rustic blooms. Perfect! Congrats Leah & Yat!

Laura and Matt's Brown Velour cutting cake, and Lemon Frill cupcakes with bright coloured liners and fondant daisies!

They did a tower of Lemon Frill and Brown Velour cupcakes, and lemon minis too!

300 minis in 3 flavours and styles for Puneet and Aman's engagement party! Coconut cupcakes with vanilla creamcheese frosting and white coconut in silver liners, dark chocolate minis with pale lavender dollop frosting and pink vanilla cupcakes with mini pink rosettes... !

Isn't she gorgeous? Yes, he is handsome too!

Loved how these all looked on the stand...

Chomp chomp! Many happy returns to all my brides and grooms! ... and still more to come! xo

Summer love! Summer is known for being the Time Of The Weddings. A busy beaver time for Coco Cake indeed... I will be posting some truly lovely weddings over the next week which I was lucky enough to be a part of! Here's to Summer Love!

Jen and boB's super cute gothic/dark wedding at the Teahouse in Stanley Park! A chocolate cutting cake with dark purple fondant, lavender cherry blossom tree with black flowers, black hearted cupcakes and raspberry topped jam filled vanilla cupcakes...!

Sara and Herman's adorable sweets table, complete with Coco Cake mini cupcakes and cutting cake! Bride made the super cute cake toppers!

Ruffle-puff mini vanilla wedding anniversary cake for the super sweet Erin & Lenny! They welcomed a beautiful baby girl - Penelope Sloan - into their lives 8 weeks ago! Love!

Bonnie and Ken givin'er on the dance floor! Loved their modern, sweet wedding colours, as reflected in the mega Coco Cake cupcake tower and cutting cake! Cheburashka cupcake cake for Jasper!

Do you know crazy little Cheburashka? A furry little Russian animated character popular in the 1970s. A real cutie who has now recently re-emerged as the mascot for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, though his fur has changed from brown to blue. Apparently he "is a funny little creature, unknown to science, who lives in the tropical forest." He accidentally gets into a crate of oranges, set for a city in Russia, and is found by a shopkeeper!

In Vancouver, there is an amazing community of artist-type craftspeople who make awesome things. Valerie of Cabin + Cub is one of those people - you must check out her blog and etsy store, she has the cutest stuff made from wood and vintage children's book illustrations- anyhow- her little guy Jasper turned 1 years old this year! For his birthday, Valerie requested... yep, you guessed it ... a cute little Cheburashka cake! I made a chocolate cake covered with fondant for the central face, and then jammed together mini chocolate cupcakes to make up his huge oversized ears. I think it looks a bit like he has two furry gloves jammed on either side of his head going "Hey-oh!!" - but still turned out pretty darn cute! Besides, Jasper was stoked... his first taste of chocolate!

I think old Cheb is pretty darn cute in his original 1970s brown form - he looks a bit 90's raver in his latest blue furred Sochi 2014 incarnation. What do you think?

Hi! I'ved Missed You!

Hi blog readers and buddies... ! Long time no write... but it doesn't mean I haven't been thinking about you. I took a nice, well-needed break from Cake Land for a while. I still made quite a few cakes here and there, and I will be back making even more cakes starting in September. So what have I been up to in the past few months?

I worked at summer camp at Arts Umbrella, loving every minute of hanging out with some seriously hilarious and bright children. I performed at Vancouver's 125th Anniversary Summer Live festival with my conceptual synth pop group Guimauves at Stanley Park here in Vancouver. I celebrated the birth of yet another adorable niece - baby Piper! I love her already! I went on a wonderful sailing trip on the Sunshine Coast of Vancouver with my honeybun Rich and another fun-loving couple, Scott and Shira. And I'm still trying to enjoy what's left of a suddenly-beautiful summer in Vancouver. When the weather is right in our city, it's truly the most amazing place. Biking to the beach from my place along the seawall and going for a swim in the hot sun... barbecuing with friends in the backyard as the sun sets... fresh basil, chives and mint from the garden adorning every meal... evening basketball with buddies, getting in fitness and fun... swimming and biking and walking as much as possible...!

I've also contemplated my life in Cake Land and I think I am ready for a shift in scenery. Just a shift - definitely will still be making cakes, but cutting back somewhat. I've realized that cakemaking is solitary work, and this ol' lady needs more social time!! Plus there's so much stuff I want to do, and time seems to be slipping by into the future. I would love to have more time to fully flesh out my other blogs, Ice Cream by Coco Cake and especially the hilarious potential behind Trompe Chomp. I want to work on some videos and films, and record songs for Guimauves. I want to take a course in Carpentry... I've become very interested in houses and how they are built and designed... I want to get better at speaking (beginner!) Mandarin... I want to get more fit and join a sports team... etc, etc, etc... !

The above photos are of my cutie niece Kensie's 2nd birthday party cake and cupcakes... oh she is just the cutest and funniest little girl now. I made her a cute little ruffly pink cutting cake and raspberry vanilla cupcakes, and a special turtle flag just for her!

I hope you are all having a good summer! Stay tuned for more cakey blog updates as I upload some of the work I've been doing over the Summer! In the meantime, tell me of your adventures!
