Petunia the Pup cake

Petunia the pup cake is a cake I did a while back but hadn't had a chance to post! Karen wanted a very special birthday cake for her little Lucia's 1st birthday - and Lucia adores their puppy Petunia... ! Animal face cakes are clearly one of my favourite types of cakes to make for people. I love how much people love their pets... I feel that hard, as I have had many wonderful pets I have known and loved. Bailey the boxer, Woody the boxer, Coco my beloved kitty that took me through the ages of 19 to 30 (I miss her still!), Taco the fatcat... I hope to get a dog or a cat for my little son Teddy one day! Um, yeah, years from now. Let's just get through the sleepless nights first... :)

Petunia the pup was a dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream!
And yes I did Petunia's pencil sketch on the back of an envelope.

Thanks Karen for the fun order - happy birthday Lucia!

Rufflepuff Buttercream Buddies

A few ruffly cute buttercream cakes with cake banners for you...

A vanilla buttercream cake (I believe the inside layers were a pale lavender...) for little Hannah's birthday with silvery cute cake bunting.

Dark chocolate mocha cake for my beautiful friend Shira's 30th birthday (way back in December!)... She is opening a modern vegetarian restaurant here in Vancouver called The Acorn! Can't wait... it will be a splendid success, as Shira puts her heart and soul into everything she does and couldn't be a lovelier person or sweeter friend to me.

Rufflepuff jumbotron RAINBOW cake for cute Ava's birthday - I never got a photo of the insides, sadly - but I ROYGBIV-ed the insides to make rainbow layers with vanilla buttercream. This thing weighed a ton (possibly for real?)... And lookit the cute buttons my friend Phanie made for Coco Cake - so adorable.

That's all for now cake pals... but I will say that I am now 32 weeks pregnant with my first child... a baby boy on his way! He's kicking out the jams in my getting-jumbo baby belly as I type this. I imagine this will change my life in every way possible. And I can't wait to make his very first cake from mama to baby. xoxo

And blue and green robot head? I made him for Fox's 1st birthday! I can't get enough of fun birthday orders like these ones. Thanks so much Andrea and Rachel for the awesome orders.

Happy 2nd Birthday Aaro and Happy 1st Birthday Fox!

Oro The Cowboy's 1st Birthday!

Oh cuteness. Rob and Anna's little super cutie Oro turned 1... and what better way to celebrate than a COWBOY themed party? Oro had two birthday parties to celebrate, and also TWO cakes by yours truly, Coco Cake! The first was a very hilarious old-timey, winking cowboy vanilla cake... I love his smiley happy face and little green bandana, and especially his giant frosting sideburns! The second was a simple but brightly colored "record" cake in vanilla with raspberry jam filling, with a little wooden candle holder topper provided by Anna ... isn't that topper adorable??

Anna sent me some supercute pics of her little guy and his birthday parties! Happy 1st birthday little Oro! Also, many thanks to Rob and Anna for having Coco Cake be a part of Oro's birthday! ^__^

Double Birthday Cuteness - Saya's 1st, Her Dad's 30th!

Tomo the cat cake and Funny Face cake!

Cake table loveliness!

Funny little wooden dude - one of Saya's favourite things!

Cake version!

Cake version of Tomo the cat!!! Oh, how I was chuckling away when making his crazed face.

Me trying to pet the real Tomo but him getting super mad at me! Still so cute!!! Oh well, I can always pet the cake version.

Cupcakes. Love the contrast of the bright red stand with the gingham blue liners... !

Lookit that face! HBD Saya!

Super cuted out cakes for super cute kid's parties? LOVE making cakes for them. Love it. Animal face cakes, especially. I'm thinking of only doing those for the rest of my cake-ing days.

It was my dear friend Miko's daughter Saya's first birthday party a few weeks ago... Saya's gotta be one of the cutest and funniest little babies I know. Her expressions are beyond bonkers... going from giggle-zone to stern frown in lightning speed... and whipping quickly to boogying chuckles back again! Saya's birthday happens to be the day after her dad Jason's birthday... pretty cute slightly belated birthday present for Jason one year ago, don't you think? A super cute baby? Yeah, pretty good present...!

Mom Miko asked me to make two cakes, plus cupcakes - the first cake for Saya based on this wacky little wooden toy she adores, and the second cake for Jason, based on their ADORABLE BUT CRAZY cat Tomo!!! Oh, I just want to pick up Tomo and cuddle him but I know he will tear my face into shreds if I do! He reminds me of my old cat Coco. Yes, I have loved the name Coco for years and years... ^__^

Saya's cake was vanilla with vanilla buttercream, and Jason's cat cake was vanilla cake with strawberry jam filling and vanilla creamcheese frosting, and the cupcakes were the same flavour! I am LOVING those gingham bright blue cupcake liners!

Thanks Miko for the super fun order... and happy birthday to dear Saya!

Cheburashka cupcake cake for Jasper!

Do you know crazy little Cheburashka? A furry little Russian animated character popular in the 1970s. A real cutie who has now recently re-emerged as the mascot for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, though his fur has changed from brown to blue. Apparently he "is a funny little creature, unknown to science, who lives in the tropical forest." He accidentally gets into a crate of oranges, set for a city in Russia, and is found by a shopkeeper!

In Vancouver, there is an amazing community of artist-type craftspeople who make awesome things. Valerie of Cabin + Cub is one of those people - you must check out her blog and etsy store, she has the cutest stuff made from wood and vintage children's book illustrations- anyhow- her little guy Jasper turned 1 years old this year! For his birthday, Valerie requested... yep, you guessed it ... a cute little Cheburashka cake! I made a chocolate cake covered with fondant for the central face, and then jammed together mini chocolate cupcakes to make up his huge oversized ears. I think it looks a bit like he has two furry gloves jammed on either side of his head going "Hey-oh!!" - but still turned out pretty darn cute! Besides, Jasper was stoked... his first taste of chocolate!

I think old Cheb is pretty darn cute in his original 1970s brown form - he looks a bit 90's raver in his latest blue furred Sochi 2014 incarnation. What do you think?

Pony Express! Choo Choo!

Adorable Kate wanted a pony cake this year for her birthday... and a pony cake it was! A giant brown pony in fact, nestled in some cool blades of green grass amongst pretty little flowers, plus matching pink and purple buttercream rosette-topped cupcakes!

I never was a pony or horsey girl when I was a kid. I was more into being a tomboy and trying to like cars to impress my dad. I was actually kind of scared of horses when I was a kid... they were so big! I imagined them chomping my hand with their huge white teeth if I tried to feed them a carrot. In fact I've only ridden a horse one time in my life - on a trip to Mexico when I was 15. My butt was so sore for days afterward from all that bouncing around! Nowadays I think horses and ponies alike are cute. Especially... MINI HORSES!

I really love the equestrian look though. Tailored clothing, tall fancy leather boots, jaunty riding hats and long hair as silky as a horse's ever-brushed mane.

Happy Birthday Kate! Hope you had the most delightul, pony-filled dreamy party!

Crazy Purple Barney Cake!

Barney had quite his day in the sun in the 1990s, eh? Purple dino power! And Barney is back for another chance to shine on a crazy looking purple buttercream-piped cake. I don't get to make figurines very often so this was a fun little purple dino to create out of fondant. And purple Barney rosette cupcakes to match!

Barney should totally party it up with Grimace, that other purple blobby creature. They could have a purple themed party with all purplish food. Eggplants, grapes, blueberries... a vegetarian feast!

Thanks Amelia for the cute order! ^__^
