Drawing Is Fun: Handmade Custom Cake Toppers

I've been really loving working on hand drawn cake toppers lately for my cakes - I like it because it's something no one else can recreate, making them original and fun- and boy, colouring really provides me with some stress-relieving joy! I should invest in some colouring books... 

This adorable set of yellow umbrella and raindrop buddies was created for Lauren's baby shower, hosted by her sisters Alissa and Naomi! I loved the yellow umbrella theme - a fresh and fun baby shower theme, don't you think? Alissa provided me with the invite and I created the toppers based around the umbrella theme. How cute are those blue drip drop cake topper buddies? Heehee!






Here's a super cute set of cake toppers to match a custom pirate cake I made for adorable Graydon's 5th birthday party! The neon parrot cake topper made me chuckle. I kind of want to make a parrot cake now. This is nuts, too - I made an awesome Where The Wild Things Are cake for Graydon for his very first birthday party - and now he's five! Where does the time go?

I adore how the custom toppers bring a cake to life. I loved making these cute little vintage-look ice skating buddies for sweet River's birthday cake. I made River a cupcake train cake a few years ago for his 5th birthday! I wanted to go ice skating and was craving hot chocolate with mini marshmallows instantly after drawing them. Gad, I'm impressionable! Doesn't the cake look extra billowy and "snowy" with the addition of the ice skaters? :)

And of course this cutie red fox playing the guitar for my good friend Miko's daughter Saya's birthday, based on an image in one of her favourite books. I can hear the plink and plunk of the acoustic guitar right now... 

Ahh, too much fun! I love being able to offer something unique and cute, and something I really love doing - I've been drawing since I was a little kid. It's nice to be able to sit down and draw again. I forget I can do that after a long day of chasing after Teddy and baking, photographing and blogging in between!

Ginormous Cupcake!

It's a biggie. I wonder how many it would feed? I'm thinking 15 people. Or 1 super hungry maniac. Digging in with forks... oh man that's a lot of cake and frosting! I made this for a little cutie baby named Kai - and for a "smash cake" photoshoot for his 1st birthday! I can't wait to see the pictures. The ever-amazing Jeanie Ow took the photos and I just know they will be bonkers cute!! I will post some when I receive them!

I love the idea of the giant cupcake. So pop art, so surreal. Inherently comical!

This ginamo dynamo cupcake is vanilla with vanilla buttercream, a whackload of rainbow sprinkles and a big old fondant red cherry on top! Oh, giant cupcake. Sorry you got the daylights smashed out of ya!!

On another note: HAPPY MOTHER's DAY to all those supermoms out there!! I will do a belated mother's day post in a few days... just as soon as I serve up the cake I made for it! ^__^

Baby Face Cake & Bunny Face Cupcakes!

Alice is having a cute little baby boy born in the Year of the Rabbit... so she requested a cute little baby boy face cake in chocolate with vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam filling, and bunny rabbit faced cupcakes to match for her baby shower! Kawaii cute!

I'm a Year of the Dragon... any other Dragons out there? Does everyone know what their Chinese horoscope is?? Our family will be adding two more Year of the Rabbits to the world... both my sisters are pregnant and due within a month of each other! Zing!!!

Auntie Coco Cake's going to be very busy creating adorable cakes for all of her crazy little nephews and nieces!!

Monkeyin' Around At Old Coco Cake HQ

Wheeee!! What fun... a beautiful color theme of pink, orange and brown made up this adorable baby shower cake and matching cupcakes-- with baby girl monkeys!! Kawaii!! Janice and Brent will be adopting a beautiful little girl from Vietnam, and have named her Jocelyn. The cake was chocolate with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream, covered in fondant; the cupcakes are Lemon Love, scrumptious lemon cake made with real lemon juice and lemon zest, and lemon creamcheese frosting. Yum!

I must have drawn about 30 monkey faces. They just kept looking like bears... until I realized--- I had to put the EARS down on the side of the head! Like humans! Not like teddy bears! Eeks... I was so happy with how it all turned out.

Congratulations on the new and wonderful excitement in your lives, Janice and Brent! Yay Baby Jocelyn!

Where My Beret At?

Bonjour! Je m'apelle Lyndsay! Je suis une femme qui habite a Vancouver, Columbie Britanique. J'aime parler en Francais, mais malheureusement, je ne parle pas tres bien. Mais, j'essaye! Ici, il y'a une collection de petite souris. Attendez! Les petites souris sont CUPCAKES!!! 

Okay. That was hard, and if someone who actually reads and speaks French reads that, it would probably sound like this: "Hello! I am Lyndsay. I am a woman who live in Vancouver, British Columbia. I like speak in French, but unfortunately, I can't speak very well. But, I try! Here is a collection of little mouses. Wait! The little mouses are CUPCAKES!!!" 

Yes-- it's true! I did a "French Mouse" turquoise and orange colour-themed baby shower, with little Lemon Love (lemon cake with creamcheese frosting, and fondant) mouse cupcakes wearing berets in turquoise and orange, and a crazy blue fondant covered chocolate ganache dark chocolate cake featuring an artist mouse, a paint palette, and pretty roses. When I was putting the faces on my little Frenchie mouse friends I would give them names. "Your name is Jean Pierre. And you, you are my little friend Guy LaRoche. Et vous, vous etes Jean Jean! I love you, Jean Jean!!!" 

Mais oui! C'est belle! C'est formidable! Et moi, je suis tres, tres, tres fatiguee...!!
