Red Panda Cake!
All these years I've been calling the panda bear my spirit animal. You know, panda bears are from China, I'm Chinese... but then there's this bumbling nutbar raccoon-like mammal lazing around in his fancy fur coat - yes, the red panda! These guys are so cute! So I have another spirit animal to choose from now. I wonder if red pandas like to bake cakes and eat ice cream. Hmmm...
I made this little cutie for baby Liam's 1st birthday - he has a red panda stuffie that he loves! Pretty darn cute. Happy 1st Birthday, Liam - and thank you Tiffany for the fun cake order!

Happy Chinese New Year + Panda Bear Cake!
Happy Chinese New Year to all of my wonderful blog readers and cake pals! Hope you have a delightfully prosperous, happy and healthy 2014! Here's an older post I wrote on Chinese New Year and what it means to me.
I made this super cute panda bear face cake for sweet little one month old baby Georgia. Georgia is the newborn daughter of Olivia and Jeremy - years ago I made their wedding cupcakes! It was so nice to hear from them again when Olivia emailed me about making a welcome baby cake for her new little one. I gotta say, Olivia, you look great! Very happy for your new family of three.

Polar Bear Cake DIY for Handmade Charlotte
Hellllo there, polar bear face cake with delightful fish dinner ready to be snacked on! This polar bear cake would be so cool (heh heh) for a kid's Arctic themed birthday party, right? Check out my DIY polar bear cake over at Handmade Charlotte for this beary nice cake idea.
I think it's so fun to think about birthday party themes for Teddy's future birthdays. But who the heck knows what he'll be into each year... I can't realistically force him into having a cute Marimekko vintage car wallpaper themed party or pink French poodle party, can I? I hope I can steer him far away from video games... but I know how unrealistic that might be... well at least I hope he is interested in art and crafting - he already loves music and is very taken by instruments, so that's a plus!
Happy new year, everyone! All the very best for a sweet 2014. I've got a mega Top Cakes of 2013 post coming up with loads of cakey eye candy ... so do come back and visit soon!

Bear With Me... A Bear Cake and a Teddy
Happy Fall everyone!
Holy man it's been a wild summer (and really, a wild roller coaster year) for me. But it comes down to this ... I had a beautiful baby boy this summer, born on his due date, August 20th, here in Vancouver, BC! His name is Teddy!
Becoming a mom has been... oh yes, life changing. It's only been a month now, but you can't help but feel a myriad of crazy emotions - excitement/disbelief that there is now another little mini human in the house, growing powerful love as you get to know your new baby, and of course homebound cabin fever, as your entire job now consists of feeding and caring for this growing little monkey, as well as those baby blues - sleep deprivation and your body changing can really do a number on you, too...
Crazily enough in the last few days I've had the urge to bake things, so I made some chocolate chip cookies, a sour plum crisp and some blueberry yogurt muffins, all simple things that I could throw together but still feel like I was human. (I made the cookies carrying Teddy on a sling in front of me)! I'm thinking of reopening Coco Cake on a very low key basis come January 2013, but for now will just add some posts of cakes I haven't yet posted... and some family cakes, too!
Here is a cute little bear cake that I made a while back but didn't post - man this Japanese character is popular! His name is ... Rilakuma! Lookit that face! Pretty cute.

I hope all you blog buddies and readers out there are doing exceptionally well. Thanks for all the kind and thoughtful wishes I've received this past year! Looking forward to spending time with my little guy and getting back into some baking/blogging in the near future!
See you soon,
xo Lyndsay (and Teddy!)

My Favourite Cake Lately: Laura's Forest Themed Birthday Cake!
This Coco Cake specialty cake has a real party-time Canadiana sunny Fall day vibe. I think that's what I was feeling when I made this cake... the sun was streaming in the windows and I was wishing I could be outside to enjoy the lovely crisp Fall sun... ! Ian and Jeanie requested a forest-themed cake for Ian's forest-working sis Laura. They also hoped for the addition of a bear and a moose... forest-y type animals... so I made them wearing toques and scarves and human clothing.
I had just made a salted caramel vanilla cake the week prior and I suggested it to Ian as a flavour, which he responded enthusiastically to! So inside this crazy colorful forest cake: layers of vanilla cake with a salted caramel filling and caramel buttercream!
I seriously think this cake is so cute and I was sad to think about it getting cut up and eaten! Haha. Oh well. Someone just needs to order another cake of this style... with animals wearing human clothing, that is!
Thanks J & I for the great order! Happy Birthday to Laura!
