Hair Gets In Your Eyes: Sheepdog Cake

Gad I love this guy's face. I just want to cuddle him and pet him and feed him multi-colored milk bones and be his dog mom forever more. Sadly, he's going to be feeding himself to a bunch of super cute kids. Yes, Shyloh's 4th birthday cake - and to top it off, this sheepdog cake has pastel pink and green cake layers! What! This was a fun order, a remake of an older cake I designed - the very sheepdog cake that was featured on Bon Appetit a few years ago - yeah, sweet!

Thanks for the fun order, Genieve!

Question - what type of dog would you like to see in cake form, Coco Cake Land style? I've got a plan to make more of these puppies! (ha)...

Pretty Pink Ruffle Mini Cupcakes

Here in Vancouver, the days are getting colder, the air crisp and the sidewalks slippery with a layer of icy frost. Can you believe December is on its way? Still, my winter pansies are blooming and the oven's on full blast practically every day. Baking, photographing, writing and then chomping away at my cake props.

Flowers in winter seem like such a luxury. It's nice to grow some even in the cold.

Dark chocolate mini cupcakes with vanilla buttercream tinted the lightest ballerina tulle pink and dusted with teensy rainbow sprinkles. The cupcakes are so little I ate one with a sugar bowl teaspoon.

Happy Monday, cake pals!

I also made simple eyeballs from fondant and some mini sharp "teeth", too. Find the full monster cupcakes DIY over on my post on Craftsy!

These guys could totally be the weird offspring to my mutant bunny cake DIY I made for Handmade Charlotte, too!

Neon Striped Cupcakes Tutorial

Zinnnng! I just zapped you with outrageous neon colours. No, I didn't. But I did create these neon striped cupcakes for you. They are cute and not really that outrageous at all.

If I had piled on neon buttercream and a bunch of neon fondant doo-nads on top of each one and then dipped the whole shebang into a bucket load of rainbow sprinkles, that might be outrageous. These are more ... subtly neon!

Perfect for an 80s themed party, a circus themed party, a primary colours party, a tight and bright party, a Pride party... oh, the list goes on.

I used these cute little cupcake separator thingies that worked pretty well! They are made of food safe plastic and they nestle into your cupcake liner so you can pour the batter in stripes. Neat, right? You can find a link to the batter separators, called Batter Babies by Kimberware, here.

Happy stripey times, cake pals!
