Petunia the Pup cake

Petunia the pup cake is a cake I did a while back but hadn't had a chance to post! Karen wanted a very special birthday cake for her little Lucia's 1st birthday - and Lucia adores their puppy Petunia... ! Animal face cakes are clearly one of my favourite types of cakes to make for people. I love how much people love their pets... I feel that hard, as I have had many wonderful pets I have known and loved. Bailey the boxer, Woody the boxer, Coco my beloved kitty that took me through the ages of 19 to 30 (I miss her still!), Taco the fatcat... I hope to get a dog or a cat for my little son Teddy one day! Um, yeah, years from now. Let's just get through the sleepless nights first... :)

Petunia the pup was a dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream!
And yes I did Petunia's pencil sketch on the back of an envelope.

Thanks Karen for the fun order - happy birthday Lucia!

PURRRPLE cupcakes for Kensie

My little 3 year old niece Kensie is what I call a wonderful nutbar - full of energy and sweetness. She likes playing fake lemonade stand, LOVES mermaids and princessy dress up but ALSO loves pretending she's Linsanity (Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks) or Ryan Kesler (of the Vancouver Canucks). She's super athletic already - both her parents are sports stars. When I was pregnant with Teddy, she'd always ask me what the baby was saying, and was he sleeping in there, and what did he look like, and what was his name?? She would kiss me belly and would make sure I ate enough:  "you have to eat Auntie Lyndsay, for the baby!!" She's so cute sometimes it makes me want to cry, you just never want these sweet little monkeys to grow up even one more minute, you want them to stay mini and hilarious and innocent forever... !

Kensie loves the colour purple... and has been talking about her purple cupcakes that Auntie Lyndsay is making for her 3rd birthday party since probably the day after her 2nd birthday... ! I made chocolate cupcakes with light purple vanilla buttercream, and a ruffly buttercream cake, with a hand drawn special mermaid flag in the likeness of Kensie!!

Happy birthday to my little munchkin Kensie! Auntie Lyndsay loves you lots!

Bear With Me... A Bear Cake and a Teddy

Happy Fall everyone!

Holy man it's been a wild summer (and really, a wild roller coaster year) for me. But it comes down to this ... I had a beautiful baby boy this summer, born on his due date, August 20th, here in Vancouver, BC! His name is Teddy!

Becoming a mom has been... oh yes, life changing. It's only been a month now, but you can't help but feel a myriad of crazy emotions - excitement/disbelief that there is now another little mini human in the house, growing powerful love as you get to know your new baby, and of course homebound cabin fever, as your entire job now consists of feeding and caring for this growing little monkey, as well as those baby blues - sleep deprivation and your body changing can really do a number on you, too...

Crazily enough in the last few days I've had the urge to bake things, so I made some chocolate chip cookies, a sour plum crisp and some blueberry yogurt muffins, all simple things that I could throw together but still feel like I was human. (I made the cookies carrying Teddy on a sling in front of me)! I'm thinking of reopening Coco Cake on a very low key basis come January 2013, but for now will just add some posts of cakes I haven't yet posted... and some family cakes, too!

Here is a cute little bear cake that I made a while back but didn't post - man this Japanese character is popular! His name is ... Rilakuma! Lookit that face! Pretty cute.

I hope all you blog buddies and readers out there are doing exceptionally well. Thanks for all the kind and thoughtful wishes I've received this past year! Looking forward to spending time with my little guy and getting back into some baking/blogging in the near future!

See you soon,

xo Lyndsay (and Teddy!)

Rufflepuff Buttercream Buddies

A few ruffly cute buttercream cakes with cake banners for you...

A vanilla buttercream cake (I believe the inside layers were a pale lavender...) for little Hannah's birthday with silvery cute cake bunting.

Dark chocolate mocha cake for my beautiful friend Shira's 30th birthday (way back in December!)... She is opening a modern vegetarian restaurant here in Vancouver called The Acorn! Can't wait... it will be a splendid success, as Shira puts her heart and soul into everything she does and couldn't be a lovelier person or sweeter friend to me.

Rufflepuff jumbotron RAINBOW cake for cute Ava's birthday - I never got a photo of the insides, sadly - but I ROYGBIV-ed the insides to make rainbow layers with vanilla buttercream. This thing weighed a ton (possibly for real?)... And lookit the cute buttons my friend Phanie made for Coco Cake - so adorable.

That's all for now cake pals... but I will say that I am now 32 weeks pregnant with my first child... a baby boy on his way! He's kicking out the jams in my getting-jumbo baby belly as I type this. I imagine this will change my life in every way possible. And I can't wait to make his very first cake from mama to baby. xoxo

Kermit Cake for my little Brody

How could my little monkey cutie nephew be 4 years old already? It feels like just yesterday I remember holding him for the first time, this teensy thing in a mini Canucks newborn toque. Now Brody is obsessed with cars and is sweet and sensitive and funny and full of questions and is just the cutest little boy. Our family clan is growing and growing... my sister Leanne has three children now, and my other sis Shelley has two girls!

And... yes... when I say our family is growing... so is my own tummy. I'm also expecting a baby! I'm due in August of this year and I found out it will be a baby boy.

I dream of summer birthdays, homemade popsicles, BBQs, a cooler of ice packed with icy cold drinks, crisp summer salads and swimming. Backyard parties with colored balloons, running around on grass, ice cream cones and the giggling of little cousins, and a special cake made just for my future little guy. My birthday is in November and I was always so envious of summer birthdays - November birthdays are rainy and always indoors...

For Brody's birthday, I made him a Kermit cake, chocolate with vanilla buttercream, and matching frosted green cupcakes. Brody and his little buddies ran around in a gym full of little cars, balls, a bouncy castle and gymboree gear. To be a little kid again with none of the worries and sadness and stress of real life! Children get to be children only once. It seems so very special to me right now.

Happy (belated) birthday to my lil BroBro! Auntie Lynds loves you lots!
